Cam Weber, EA Sports general manager of football, recently took the opportunity to talk about the forthcoming Madden game which is due to be released on Wii U. Weber was asked a number of questions including whether or not he thought the Wii U was truly a next-gen console…

There is some fear that Nintendo’s Wii U platform will be stuck between the current generation and the next one. Is the console really a next-gen platform?

“Absolutely. It’s a platform with a new controller input, so we’ll do everything we can to deliver an experience that will take advantage of the hardware for that consumer.”

Lego Zelda Will Be Officially Reviewed By Lego

2012/05/07 in Blog/News Discussion

Michael Inglis, the creator behind the viral Lego Zelda video, has had his dream come one step closer to reality as over 10,000 people have backed his Lego Zelda concept at the official Lego website. Because Inglis has managed to get over 10,000 supporters Lego will have to review the concept and decide if it’s something they would like to do. Of course, they would need to get Nintendo to approve the concept as well. A certainly interesting suggestion, I also think Mario would shape up well in the Lego shapings :)

Miyamoto Chats About Vista Troubles

2012/05/05 in 3DS, Blog/News Discussion

We all know about the 3DS’ struggles after its initial launch. Well in a recent interview with Edge, Shigeru Miyamoto reflected on Nintendo’s latest handheld problems and made a connection with the current issues PS Vita is facing now.

“It’s obviously a very hi-spec machine, and you can do lots of things with it… But I don’t really see the combination of software and hardware that really makes a very strong product… When we launched the 3DS hardware we didn’t have Super Mario 3D Land, we didn’t have Mario Kart 7, we didn’t have Kid Icarus: Uprising. We were striving to have all of these ready for the launch, but we weren’t able to deliver them at that time… Looking back we have to say we realize the key software was missing when we launched the hardware.”

Pokemon Conquest Details

2012/05/03 in Blog/News Discussion, DS News, Pokemon

Share on TwitterDigg ThisSave on DeliciousShare on Myspace

We have some new details about the upcoming Pokemon Conquest title. Pokemon Conquest of course is a joint creation between Tecmo Koei and Game Freak and some folk call it the most interesting spin-off Pokemon game ever. Please feel free to post your thoughts.

The following comes from an official PR announcement from Nintendo:

“To save the Ransei region from Nobunaga, a powerful Warlord who is trying to take over Ransei, players must conquer different kingdoms to strengthen and grow their own kingdom. There are 17 kingdoms in total to conquer. Conquering all 17 kingdoms and ultimately uniting the kingdom will awaken the Legendary Pokémon and save the land from destruction.

Players can grow their army by recruiting defeated Warlords and their Pokémon. After a kingdom is conquered, players will also have access to the kingdom facilities such as training grounds, shops to buy items and mines for money. Players can also strengthen their army by linking with Pokémon

Players will encounter a wide range of battlefields as they progress through the game. Each of the 17 kingdoms has a different type-themed battlefield. For example, in the fire-themed kingdom of Ignis, players can battle around lava flows, lava beds and fire spouts. Strategically using water-type Pokémon to navigate through this battlefield will help players conquer this kingdom.”

Nintendo Reveals Details About Mario Tennis Open

2012/05/02 in 3DS, Blog/News Discussion

Share on TwitterDigg ThisSave on DeliciousShare on Myspace

In recent days I’ve been playing a lot of Tennis on the 3DS virtual console and the more I hear of this title, the more I look forward to May 20th. Mario Tennis Open is heading for 3DS and Nintendo has released more information about the game via an official PR notice.

Online Play: Mario Tennis Open players can compete and cooperate in local wireless matches with other opponents and play exhilarating games. Players can also build up their Open Match standings, check the monthly leaderboard and win Victory Medals from every challenger they defeat.

Ink Showdown: In this fast-paced competition, Piranha Plants spit ink balls from the back edge of the court. Players must destroy the ink balls before they splatter, while hitting tennis balls away from an opponent.

StreetPass Features: Players can inspire friendly competition by using the Nintendo 3DS system’s StreetPass feature. They can engage in competitive StreetPass Matches or cooperative Ring Shot challenges with computer-controlled versions of people they encounter and share their StreetPass winning streak. StreetPass can also be used to show off players’ Mii characters, which can be customized with new outfits and accessories that can improve their on-court performance. As users play, new items for their Mii will be unlocked in the Item Shop.

Unlockable Characters: New and familiar Nintendo characters can be unlocked – some through game play, others via special QR Codes. Unlockable characters include Luma, Baby Mario and Dry Bowser.

Digital Pricing Will Equal Physical Media

2012/05/02 in 3DS, Blog/News Discussion, Wii U

Share on TwitterDigg ThisSave on DeliciousShare on Myspace

So gamers will soon be able to download major 1st Party and 3rd party titles via Nintendo’s digital eStores. Does that mean gamers will gain the advantage of a discount if they purchase titles online? The answer of course is no. Mr Iwata made the following comments about digital pricing during his latest meeting with investors:

“We do not hold such a premise that digitally distributed software has less value… Different people value different things. If we said, this is the only proposal we will make so you have to take it, it would be a problem as there would be no options for the consumers to choose from. On the contrary, what I explained today is that we are proposing the two formats of sales mechanisms from which our consumers can make their own choices… Some publishers believe that the digital versions should be cheaper while others insist that both versions must be set at exactly the same price… So, it is not only Nintendo’s idea. Each publisher has various ideas on this point and, among them, Nintendo is now offering both versions at the same price point (the same suggested retail price).”

So buy online and you will be limited to playing the game on one piece of hardware without the pleasure of having a literal box and actual ownership of a cartridge. I think a discount is needed for online media but you may disagree with me.

Iwata on Wii U Launch Line Up

2012/05/02 in Blog/News Discussion, Wii U

Share on TwitterDigg ThisSave on DeliciousShare on Myspace

At a recent investors meeting Nintendo president Satoru Iwata refused to make promises he couldn’t keep about Wii U launch titles. This is what he had to say:

The company now has to develop software for the Nintendo 3DS, has to prepare for the Wii U launch and has to finalize the hardware functionalities. With these circumstances in mind, if I said that an overwhelmingly rich software lineup would be prepared from day one, it would be too much of a promise to make. On the other hand, we are making efforts so that we will be able to make several proposals even from the launch period that can eventually become evergreen titles for the Wii U… We have learned the lesson that we have to make that kind of preparation for the Wii U, or the Wii U will not gain enough momentum to expand its sales. We would like to share additional information at the E3 show in June this year.”

I don’t know but we gamers are so impatient. We shout about a lack of games when Nintendo has clearly been working on two new pieces of hardware, and when they are trying to push games out we want to know about when the next console is going to arrive. I wouldn’t want to be a video game developer. :)
