Other M Boxarts

Postby Jonah » Thu Jul 08, 2010 5:16 pm

Well we now know what both US and Japanese Boxarts look like and here they are for debate. Which design do you prefer?

They both have their own style, I really like them both! I Japaneese one has a comic-book look to it, very cool. I like the US one better though, I really like the artwork!
So I'm Bam now, but I'll always be the Twilightavnger... :D

I really like the Japanese one because I like how it reflects the game while being simple. The art style makes you concentrate on her face, almost like saying "look beyond the suit and see Samus as the person she is, not as the bounty hunter adventurer with a mechanical suit and an arm cannon" - Which is what we do see her as in pretty much every other game. A bounty hunter is stereotypically a masculine thing, but in Other M apparently we see her more feminine side and so showing us her suit in full clarity would just make us think more about the bounty hunter side of her than the feminine side - which isn't what the developers want you to think before playing the game, it would possibly set you up for a disappointment and that's not good for ratings and sales :LOLLOL:.

I do like the art style of the US one and how it represents the game. Again it makes us view Samus as a person and more than a bounty hunter in a suit, but this one shows more than the Japanese cover does. It shows her as a strong determined woman, uniformed and with an image of what could be her commanding officer (judging by his uniform and the purple colour of it and him) which tells her a bit about her background. It also gives us the setting of the game and space and a space station are great to signify it's sci-fi, not forgetting her suit. Also seeing her in her suit with that particular gaze hints to adventure, space exploration as well as her determination to find something or someone. Overall it shows Samus as a strong woman and an adventurer and her gaze hints to action, if the guy in an officer looking uniform didn't already give that away lol.

The Japanese one seems to be targeting fans of the series in particular, where as the US one seems to be targeting a wider audience base than already existing fans. I find that interesting :LOLLOL:.

Anyway

I think the US one is the better of the two :P. Although I like the simplicity of the Japanese cover I prefer the art style of the US one and how it represents more of the game :).

I like both of them, the Us one has a sketchy look to it.
And the Japanese one is just...cool.
