Just out of interest I found this little quote regarding Spirit Tracks advertising in Europe.
“The marketing for Spirit Tracks will focus around TV campaign starting around the launch encapsulating the magic and mystery of The Legend Of Zelda, as well as displaying the rich and varied environments of the title itself. We want to ensure that all Legend Of Zelda fans are aware of the title at launch with this heavyweight TV campaign. The TV spots will be supported by online takeovers on all major gaming sites with rich media including a trailer. Building on the success of Phantom Hourglass, The Legend Of Zelda: Spirt Tracks sends hero Link on a brand new adventure. Travelling by train opens up new options for problem solving.” – product manager Roger Langford

It’s an okay ad, definitely felt rushed…

The end part certainly seemed rushed, but stereotypically US adverts are like that so I’m not surprised really.
Other than that, I think it was pretty good
. The camera angles, the lighting, the setting, all certainly did their job. It created mystery, tension, made it feel action packed and showed enough of the game to get people interested and know the gist of the game, while not giving too much away. The music (or the lack of it) made it seem spooky (which goes with Zelda being a ghost), especially when the knight was about to slam his sword down onto the guy and Zelda quickly took over the knight and saved him – which also hints to the audience that Zelda helps out in the game by taking over knights like that to help the main character.
I guess the rushed feel of it might have been to go with the train, since they are supposed to be fast moving and not slow
.
I think I maybe thinking too much like a Media student now
.

Regarding the rushed comment, they had 30 seconds to cram everything in. Actually I’ve never seen a TV advert from Nintendo that’s longer than 30 seconds. I don’t know if that is the golden rule companies must follow but it must be difficult to make an advert with so little time to play with.

I don’t quite get the complaints about the US adverts — they all seem
about the same to me.
I had told myself I was not going to watch these ads but then it will be
on tv soon and I might see one anyway.
Since I did watch it I will say I was impressed. That made the game very
appealing in an unusual way because if you are a Zelda fan the notion
of a door opening and being in Hyrule has the very same magical appeal
of the wardrobe being a gateway to Narnia. The ad makes me want to
play the game even more than ever, the train — the tracks — a spirit of
Zelda and then door opens into Hyrule. WoW — I think that is one
awesome advert. Way to go Nintendo.
Media student or not — the advert is to sell the game and that is first
class marketing. I think that may be my favorite commercial ever for
Zelda. How could you say more in 30 seconds, the way to Hyrule is about
to open once more — yes I will be walking through that door as soon as
the game hits the shelves. All of that and it does not give away the
fun of exploring the game.
I am going right this minute to cancel my orders for the game at Amazon
and I will be getting locally — I am not going to wait on this one.
Thanks for posting that commercial Jonah — I can hardly wait.
